America is the name of a whole continent. United States of America means that the United States belongs to America and NOT that America belongs to the United States. So, next time you want to refer to The United States of America, you can do it as U.S. or the States or whatever you want but not as only America. Gotcha?
Here we will show you some wrong and correct uses of the term America:
Please, note that this page in not about demonyms (gentilics) but about the way to call a country.

If someone asks: "-where is America?", where would you point at in a map?
If you were smart enough you would point at "The United States Of America" which is the only country bearing that name.
Your choice would probably be somewhere else but America, that's because you are encased stupid yourself with other Americas.
This is too American for you.
You are still stupid.
I just changed the preposition for you to understand that its name matters.
I hope you like it better this way.
United States Is America!
This is how people think and talk after years of conditioning since they can't see beyond the point where the United States started with this nonsense of calling itself the name of the continent. It is also the fault of the indoctrination of public schools in the United States, where politicians dictate what to teach and what not to teach. America was chosen to be the name of the new world, the one continent not the country. The country somehow, started using it but it is incorrect.
fellow Americans, do not mind stupid people.
David said: "Thanks, Mrs. Obvious. And the other meanings you don’t like continue their existence. Your pathetic denials don’t change reality."
There are no other meanings because the word/name was to name a continent. America was coined to signify a new world not a country. The country uses it for the same meaning that was coined for, that is a continent. You are the one denying this very fact.
You can't deny that North of America and South of America even Central America are all in America! Not a country but the continent.
You are so stupid.
Are you trying to say that their name should not be a composed name?, why do you remain so stupid?.
Their name is just another name that could be shortened however I wished to.
Do you even know about compositions?
If you knew better your brain would have a better understanding.
If I say "America", assume it is America, nothing else. Where else is America anyways?
The United States Of America
David said: "Thanks, Mrs. Obvious. Of course the name came from the continent. I have never argued any differently."
So if you say so, what is the name of the continent again?
Well something that bothers me about this, is the fact that there are multiple synonym words to "avoid" confusions even though it's all basically the same... But with a minimum confusing variation.
Let's say for example England, that is in the United kingdom, in Europe. And now let's compare it to the United States of America that is in North America which is in The Americas... It's even worse with demonyms. "I'm an American from North America in the Americas"
So it's funny that "America" is only a part of North America
And it was in The Africas too.
You are stupid.
At least the Africans got it right, South Africa is in Africa. Not like the USA which calls itself America but being in North of America??? It's like thinking backwards. Can we put America in North of America? only if America was bigger than North of America, which it is! The continent is bigger than North of America, thus America, then North America, then the USA.
America needs no north or south.
Chances are that if you put your finger in a map to list where America is, you most likely point out anywhere in America.
"Anywhere" in this case could be "The United States Of America", which (for Lord Jesus) is actually America.
God bless you
Ha, how stupid that sounds.
That's because you are stupid hahahaha
Have any of you heard of the "Pan-American Highway" or in Spanish La carretera Pan-Americana? Its a highway that crosses most if not all of the countries in America. Hence Pan-American. pan-
a combining form meaning “all,” occurring originally in loanwords from Greek American: from America. So: Pan-American is All American Highway. Not Pan Americas, not Las Pan Americas Highway, no, but Pan American Highway or in Spanish, Carretera Panamericana.
Pan= All
American= from America
thus,
PanAmerican or All from America..or..all of America.
A continental highway in America.
Not in the USA but in America
Thanks, Mrs. Obvious. And the other meanings you don’t like continue their existence. Your pathetic denials don’t change reality.
There is no other meaning to the once coined named of America! If you want to refer to the nickname that the U.S. wants to go by, for example, America, that name means the continent of America, no matter how you put it, how you want to explain that words change meanings, your insistence on that will not make the name America change the meaning which was given when first coined/made originated to mean a continent. So, the United States of America, means those States which united to become a nation in America, so the name is actually using the continent's name and my friend, that is the true meaning of the word America even when used by the U.S. in its country's name.
if you know that they use it in its country name, why are you so pathetic about?
You are still stupid.
Are you denying the fact that there is a Pan American Highway that goes all over America the continent?
Hey Mrs. stupid, when you mentions America, I already understood enough for you to tell me "the continent".
If there is already a highway going across America, that highway would make me think about the only America that I know.
Remember, there are not 2 America, just one. For you to say "of the continent" reveals how bad and poorly is your thinking.
Maybe because English is not your native language could be an excuse but not really.
You are just stupid.
People in the United States have been conditioned to parroting what they are saying right on this forum. They can't comprehend that there is more history than the one they have been told by their masters before the U.S. became a nation but somehow their brains are not ready to take that much load. They go crazy with questions like, "Where did the U.S. get the name "Of America" from? Since they are deniers of a continent named America, they are lost in confusion land..lol
Something interesting to ponder regarding the U.S. and the name of the continent-form Wikipedia: Historically, the United States of America saw itself as a blossoming continental nation-state. Accordingly, the first governing body for the North American colonists was called the Continental Congress,[1][2] which sought to receive delegates from across the British colonized areas of the continent, including the future Canadian provinces of Quebec and Nova Scotia.
Continentalism in the United States was developed through the expeditions and experiences of frontier expansion on the American frontier. In the nineteenth century, the ideology of continentalism became internationalised by the growing concept of Manifest destiny, to create a belief amongst state and commercial leaders that the United States would help spread Western civilisation from Europe to the rest of the world[3]. Between 1840-1898, American continentalism began to involve ideas on overseas expansion..."
David: ou continue with the crazy explanation of yours that the map had the name "America" in what is the South of America. BAH! If you read antique maps, names sometimes are not necessarily right on top of the whole thing. Anyways, Europeans gave the new world its name to the continent, that is "America",and the name stuck as more lands were discovered. You seem to skip that part. So, let me ask you, when the USA extended itself all the way to the West annexing the Mexican states of California, COlorado, etc, according to your way of thinking, that new part is not under the United States name? Give me a break!
Don’t forget about Parias, payasa.
Of course it is under the name of the USA. It’s part of the USA. What the hell are you babbling about?
Of course is under the USA and not Mexico because as the USA expanded so the does the name. Same happen with America, as the continent expanded and found more lands, the name "America" also expanded and all those lands became part of the new continent, America.
We are not paying for that wall in America.
America was asking for an economic support from you fellows but that is fine.
Now, everybody else is opposed to that wall, leaving America the way it has been.
The greatest wall of America. Not (Of) in uppercase letter, thus in this case "of America" is not a composed named as it is in "The United States Of America" which is a name of 4 conjoined words. Thank you.
The greatest wall in America. Or maybe "The Greatest Wall In America" (for the haters).
The United States Of America
Is there any other country named America?.
Which other country is named America?
There is not any other country named America other than:
The United States Of America.
Deal with it!.
You loose and I win this game.
The United States Of America.
And please, don't tell me to write the word "of" in lower case because, you are stupid.
No, the only thing with that name is a continent, America is a continent.
And a country, as you well know. Stop your pathetic pretending.
The United States uses Of America because of the continent it is located in.
no you are the one pretending. Is it true that there is a continent that was name "America" after a Amerigo Vespucci? That this name was written on a map of the new world in the side where Brazil is today? Isn't it true that this map was hanged on German and European Universities as accepted by the society in those days to be the new world, and its name is America? Is it true that the United States was not even a thought in 1507? That the USA was born about 200 or so years after the continent was named America? Isn't it in the history books that the people in the U.S. wanted to make a continental nation thereby the idea of adding "of America" to the new nation?
“The United States uses Of America because of the continent it is located in.”
Thanks, Mrs. Obvious.
The ‘of’ isn’t capitalized. You are already bad enough, so don’t stoop to Dave’s level.
your bad English won't let you think any farther.
Everything is too american for you.
America
Perfecto, y como es tu castellano?
The composition of a name conjoined in four words which describes as follows:
United States Of America.
It actually has nothing to do with a name that is already a single word and means something, not else, but genetic.
America brings imaginations.
America stood in the western hemisphere.
And until today it still remains America!, Western harmony, new horizons, the great America!.
Then America was invaded by people that became Americans.
Those invadors named America.
After a while, those invadors named other countries in America.
One of those countries is one composed of four words as described at the beginning.
Canada is one of those countries.
Then there is The United States Of America, but, you are stupid.
there is none, but there is one that includes the word America in its name, United States of America
And it’s very commonly called ‘America’, so that’s one of its NAMES.
If it includes America as part of its name, what makes you think America is not a country?
No further discussion, you loose and I win this game.
It makes you stupid. That is why you are stupid.
The United States Of America
yes because they had a continental idea early in their history, so they used the name of the continent.
Thanks, Mrs. Obvious. You bring so much to the table.
