America is the name of a whole continent. United States of America means that the United States belongs to America and NOT that America belongs to the United States. So, next time you want to refer to The United States of America, you can do it as U.S. or the States or whatever you want but not as only America. Gotcha?
Here we will show you some wrong and correct uses of the term America:
Please, note that this page in not about demonyms (gentilics) but about the way to call a country.

This is what arrogance and ignorance look.
Classic United Statian
Unbelievable... and the innocent people from other continents will simply repeat it.
Since when is "American" a nationality? Did you see how Wikipedia is being used to wash minds?
The United States is using every kind of media possibility to push things their way.
Example: "Nationality: American"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julianne_Moore
True, but sad, so I give it a thumb down. I thought Wikipedia was a respectable source
wikipedia even states that it itself is not a reliable source
I have posted this thing in Quora. Hope it is OK for you.

I don't have a Quora account, but thanks for sharing
There is plenty of this same question on quora, I recommend you to remove the question, because pretentious United Statians are going to answer the same thing.
Hey, there is even a group called "United Statian" in Quora
Again, obviously ‘America’ is not the official name of the USA. Bad from Wikipedia.
Here they say "Citizenship: United Kingdom, United States"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Mortimer
On this other page they fake it... "Citizenship: British, American"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynn_Redgrave
I love it how you mental midgets think you are winning an argument by demonstrating the obvious fact that ‘America’ is not the official name of the USA. Tell us something we don’t know, payasos. Nobody is arguing that ‘America’ is the official name of the USA. We all know that ‘America’ is an extremely common alternative or colloquial name for the USA. Nobody is arguing otherwise. Your proof of the official name of the USA does not, in any way, change the fact that the USA is very often called ‘America’ by billions of people who speak many different languages. Your proof of the official name does not prove that it is incorrect to call the USA ‘America’. It is in no way incorrect to call the USA ‘America’. There is no rule in any language that says that ‘America’ cannot be used to refer to the USA. Accept reality and deal with it, simpletons. You lose this game show game.
That is the purpose of this site, to inform people that indeed America is incorrectly referred to the US.
Well... "There is no rule in any language that says that ‘America’ cannot be used to refer to the USA." there is actually, in Spanish and Portuguese there is a rule that state that America is incorrect when speaking of the US. Just by you saying that, it demonstrates how ignorant and pathetic you are.
Hi DAvid!! We missed you! Back from coronavirus and holidays?
Remember, your government does not have to tell you what is wrong or right. You need to have common sense and "respect" for others. Live does not turn around the US.
Some people do. I mostly hear this out of South Americans. They’re the ones that take the greatest exception to it.
However, it’s important to note that the USA is actually the only country that has “America” in its name. Also, if you look at English naming conventions:
The Dominion of Canada -> Canada
The Federal Republic of Germany -> Germany
The United Mexican States -> Mexico
The Russian Federation -> Russia
The United States of America -> …what do you think goes here, logically?
The practice of calling the United States of America “America” and its inhabitants “Americans” is in no way indicative of hubris. You can point out many examples of American hubris, but this is not one of them. It is a naming convention.
Plus, it’s too late anyway and it’s not going to change. Nor is there any real reason for it.
Learn some colloquial language and be more accepting of others
the question is how did the USA get that name? and were did it come from? if it was original to the USA or was it stolen from another entity?
Are you English? what you said is not due to hubris, but inherited ignorance multiplied from Northern America.
It can be change totally, what is know as North Macedonia now was until 2018 known as only Macedonia, but reclaims from Greece make for valid and rightful reasons made the change. Evidently more people are saying that USA is not America, in the end there is a great possibility of change.
Its funny you know because US is the only country that use United States in everything even though one their excuses is that Mexico also use "United States", and still the passport doesn't stipulate American as a nationality only USA (THE ONLY COUNTRY), I wonder why? Ambiguity? Confusion? Right? So it is totally incorrect to call the US as America for the US, "America" is the equivalent of "Republic" of other countries. Also who else is going to complain, Europeans, Asians? No right? Then the rest of Americans have the right to complain.

Hi Andy or Andrea!
I only know what USA stands for but can you tell me what the other names - USD, USAF, USSS, USCG and USN - stand for?
Also when I looked at the USA Passport that you sent, I compared that to my Canada Passport and have noticed a difference for both nationalities.
My passport uses ‘the demonym of country’ for Nationality versus the USA passport which it just uses the name of their country instead of their demonym for Nationality.
I just think it’s weird for one nationality to say ‘Canadian’ instead of ‘Canada’ while another nationality says ‘United States of America’ instead of ‘United Statesian’ or ‘U.S.American’.
I bet you if a USA passport ever said just ‘American’ for Nationality, then all Americans from the other 34 countries of America will react to that and say "US citizens are never allowed to enter our country being as they decided to state their ‘demonym of country’ INcorrectly according to their passports".
May I continue: I have plenty and to spare. That is why I wonder if there is a possibility to make this site even better and add more information, pictures, for people like you before commenting stupidity.

Is there a way to make the presentation of this site much better? I mean also having more languages, more information (evidence, facts), better examples, etc. It would be great if this site information could be used as proper resource.
I totally agree
There is very valuable information missed through pages of chat
