America is the name of a whole continent. United States of America means that the United States belongs to America and NOT that America belongs to the United States. So, next time you want to refer to The United States of America, you can do it as U.S. or the States or whatever you want but not as only America. Gotcha?

Captain America, that’s a lot of words just to tell us what we already know. Of course ‘America’ is not the official name of the country. Nobody here is arguing that it’s the official name. It’s a common name for the USA. That’s a fact too.
Is one of your “facts” that common names don’t exist? Only official names exist? Don’t be silly.

David, that's not many words to make a convincing argument. Which shouldn't even be an argument, debate, discussion, etc., at all. This is a simple topic that doesn't require much thought. The 'ISSUE' & SOLUTION lies in the name. Unless it's simply out of laziness and certain individuals are shortening up the U.S.A. after the word 'OF'. Then that requires NO brain power. That's where your "common name" probably comes from and the fact associated to it. Which is CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS chose/choose to do this.
AMÉRICA is NOT a common name for the United States of AMÉRICA, in AMÉRICA.
By “certain individuals” you mean the billions of people, who speak many different languages, who refer to the US as ‘America’, right?
And it’s ‘America’ in English, not ‘América’. And it’s ‘America’ without an accent mark on the Waldseemüller map.
By certain individuals I mean the ones acquire the traits I list, that's who. They put themselves in those categories when it comes down to it. In AMÉRICA, América means America & America means América in ANY language especially English here in AMÉRICA. Nothing gets lost in translation.
To counter your 'argument' of "the billions of people....", in AMÉRICA, there are over 1 billion of Americans. Around 330 million of those Americans are U.S. Citizens. Out of those 330 million, how many do you think don't classify AMÉRICA as a country and U.S. Citizens as the ONLY Americans? I wonder what the numbers would be regarding Team AMÉRICA vs the america callers. You'd might be surprised.

When you become a "legal" resident of this, fake, fictitious, mythical country y'all want to call AMERICA, the "naturalization" papers DO NOT read "American Citizen". Doesn't exist. It reads "U.S. CITIZEN".
When you apply for a passport in the States, the application does NOT read "Application for American Passport". When you get that passport, you guessed it, it reads "U.S. PASSPORT". If you decide to travel to the mythical country of AMÉRICA, you might get lost and who knows, you might find the Lost Continent of Atlantis or the actual Continent of AMÉRICA.
Our military branches are NOT named the American Coast Guard, American Air Force, American Space Force, American Navy, American Marines, American Army, etc., etc.. They DON'T exist. They are the U.S. ARMY, U.S. NAVY, U.S. MARINES, etc..

Hence their use of other names: the United States, the Republic, the Union. 16th century Europeans referred to the 'New World' as AMÉRICA and their inhabitants as AMERICANS. The name AMÉRICA existed almost 270yrs before the United States of AMÉRICA existed. The U.S.A. hasn't changed the name in 245yrs. The Continent's name hasn't changed in 515yrs.

The words United Colonies were used by the Congress when it appointed George Washington as commander in chief in June 1775. The abbreviation U.S.A. had its origins as a way that government inspectors approved official gunpowder. The army needed to have inspectors verify that gunpowder met standards, and it stamped “U.S.A.” on the casks as a mark, starting in August 1776. Some people were using America at the time, but not globally. George Washington didn’t use the word in his first inaugural address or in his farewell address. He called his country the United States or he called it the Union, NEVER AMERICA. He did so for a reason, “these epithets equally belong to Labrador(Canada) and Paraguay and their natives.”
In June 1776, Thomas Jefferson's draft version of the Declaration started with the following sentence: “A Declaration of the Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in General Congress assembled.” The final version of the Declaration starts with the date July 4, 1776 and the following statement: “The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America.” As you can see for yourselves, the authors & Founding Fathers of the U.S.A. didn't name the country, AMERICA.
Also, the words “United States of America” appeared in the first draft of the Articles of Confederation on July 8, 1776, as it was submitted to Congress.

The United States of AMÉRICA (U.S.A)., SIMPLY means we're STATES, that are UNITED, on the Continent of AMÉRICA. Nothing more. There are 35 countries in AMÉRICA. An American is an individual who was born/lives on the Continent of AMÉRICA, the American Continent including U.S. Citizens & Canadians.

America is a continent. The United States is in America. Guatemala is in America. Paraguay is in America. So the word "America" of course exists in English.
And, as we all know, ‘America’ most often refers to the USA in English.
