America is the name of a whole continent. United States of America means that the United States belongs to America and NOT that America belongs to the United States. So, next time you want to refer to The United States of America, you can do it as U.S. or the States or whatever you want but not as only America. Gotcha?
Here we will show you some wrong and correct uses of the term America:
Please, note that this page in not about demonyms (gentilics) but about the way to call a country.

This video is horrifying. Asking random people from the US to name a continent and all they can do is laugh in an akward way.
These are the same people that try two argue that the US is America.
That's the brilliant United Statian education.
In Latin America Geografia 101 teaches that the new world was named "America", that America is divided into Sub regions, South America, North America, Central America and the Caribbean Islands or the Antilles. Some of the countries in America, have or still use the name in some capacity either on their name or in their coins or bills. Guatemala for example has "Guatemala, Centro America" in its bills, Nicaragua uses "Republica de Nicaragua, America Central in its Cordoba coins, Costa Rican 1 Colon coin reads: "America Central". Most of these Central American countries also use the C.A. after their names ex: Guatemala, C.A. (C.A. means Centro America)
Actually, the Americas (with an S) refers to two continents - North and South America. Geography 101. And because the United States is the only country in the Americas which has "America" in its internationally-recognized legal name and refers to its citizenry as "American," it is therefor correct and acceptable to refer to the United States as "America," something I will undoubtedly continue to do if for no other reason but to know it annoys whomever owns and maintains this website.
Travis, When did the two continent view started and who started it? Because as we all know, America is the name given to the continent otherwise the United States wouldn't had used the name of the continent as it is using it. Or, who invented the name America for the United States if the name for the continent was The Americas as you state?
You can't have the egg before having the hen! Somewhere somehow the U.S. took the name of the continent, America. The view of the two continents is just an excuse to use the original name of the continent. America is the name of the continent in which the United States was founded and uses its name, but if the two continents were originally the name of the new world, then the United States should be using the name of the continent in which it is in, hence, North America. So if we go by your Geography 101 the United States should be called United States of North America. But, it was more convenient to grab the continent's name and divide it.
Just because the United States included the name of the continent in its does not necessarily mean that America stops being America as the continent. The U.S. uses the name America because it is the name of the continent. German Cartographers name the continent and gave it its name "America" they did not name a country, U.S., and so your geography 101 is lacking.
The issue & SOLUTION are in the official name of the country people want to call AMÉRICA.
The United States of AMÉRICA (U.S.A.) SIMPLY means STATES, that are UNITED, on the Continent of AMÉRICA.
I am wondering where is David? I hope he is gathering information/facts since he left when the last link he provided was actually a great document to prove that America is one continent and that the British knew it way back when the 13 colonies were wanting to gain their independence.
Japanese and United Statian gaming companies?

Hey David, I think you can help me here... what's the correct way to write your demonym: United Statian or United Statesian?
Lol, I am not David but I personally believe the correct way to write United States’ Demonym is … United Statesian!
Who knows what David would say is the correct way according to him anyway.
God bless America

What have you done Craig Lungren, what have you done??? I literally launched a change.org with the purpose of achieving something more realistic like changing the pretentious answer from google search, and even if Google doesn't pay attention to it, at least that also give awareness to people.
And even though I am totally against the idea of 2 American continent nosense, I still recognize that people, geographers, internatinal organizations, etc. use that, wether is right or not. Because like I said I don't care about my opinions and I don't want people care about my opinions, I just give the straight facts.
I don't give false information and I don't make up things, everything that I have posted here has a source.
America not being the US or the correct way to call the US doesn't elimate the fact that it appears as that in most of English dictionaries and used by million of people everyday.
That is the purpose of this site, to fight and educate people WITH FACTS NOT OPINIONS that USA must not be called America.
